Group General Manager Job Description – Duties & Responsibilities

  • The Group General Manager is accountable for ensuring that maximum performance is reached across all hotels and to ensure that budgeted EBITDA is achieved. Identify opportunities for improvement through operational efficiencies and capital expenditure.
  • Group General Manager is also responsible for identifying short/medium/long term issues and assisting in formulating solutions. These are in turn presented to the COO. This includes gaining support from Senior Management for any initiatives at hotel level or capital expenditure.
  • Work in conjunction with General Managers to set strategies to improve revenue generation and to achieve agreed standards of operation. Effectively manage the performance of all General Managers. Provide regular feedback on performance and coaching where required.
  • Perform monthly operational and financial reviews of hotels to monitor performance and maintain standards.
  • Agree on actions to be taken to enhance the business or to attend to matters requiring attention and oversee achievement.
  • Remain in regular contact with hotel General Managers, and relevant support executives to ensure the effective management of the hotels.
  • Assist in the Management of shortcomings and underachievements.
  • Apply the Performance Management System for hotel General Managers and ensure effective implementation of the system for staff at the hotels.
  • Ensure compliance with all laws, regulations and rules at hotels to include H&S, Stock Management, HR Policies and KPIs. Also, ensure maintenance of agreed property standards.
  • Assist in the planning, development and implementation strategy in order to meet the agreed organisational performance plans.
  • Build effective communication and working relationships and influence a successful outcome.
  • Ensure that the right GMs are in the right hotel through the use of effective recruitment and performance management techniques.

Revenue responsibilities

  • Achieving revenue and GOP through ensuring RevPar growth, consistent cost controls, managing base costs to achieve excellent incremental conversions.
  • Ensure Loyalty Programme targets are met or exceeded.
  • Provide a major focus on the meetings and events business and provide strategy and expertise in driving this forward.
  • Assist in the development of marketing and promotional programmes and strategies in conjunction with Sales & Marketing.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining an excellent local sales strategy including social media platforms.
  • Work with the GMs in the pursuit of high yielding local sales accounts.
  • Ensure that Company F&B Brand Guidelines are adhered to at all times.
  • Review the liquor and food stock results and take appropriate action where necessary.
  • Liaise with external government agencies if needed i.e. Environmental Health Officer and any external consultants.
  • Ensure that all marketing / promotions are communicated and in place.
  • Moreover, ensure F&B outlets hit targeted GOP.
